TYERS RIVER - UPPER WEST BRANCH ( above cascades)

Tyers River – Upper West Branch

Above the Baw Baw South Face rd and cascades

Access can be to walk up the creek from the South face rd, or you can walk up the Christmas creek extension track approx. 2km and walk down to the creek,

The creek is rock garden/ boulder drops with large granite boulders forming the entire creek bed. Some are large enough to produce more slide- style drops with pools below, and slots through larger boulders just wide enough to fit. Most of the drops are 2-3m in height, and produce technical paddling. The higher section above the bridge is quite clean, with very few trees or wood. However, the cascades below the bridge are quite choked with logs, and only some of the drops could be paddled. The river in this section is definite grade 4 and possibly could be harder if you catch it at a higher level.

Needs to be paddled after snow melt, and would be best with rain event as well at the end of the season.
