MITTA MITTA ( lower section)

Mitta Mitta River ( lower) : Dartmouth Regulating Dam to Rest Area

NE Victoria. Dartmouth, Dam Release

Class: III

Description:  grade 2-3 River Run from the Dam wall down. There is access to the road about 2 km below the Sharkstooth if you only want a short run.  This section starts with fast moving water and leads into the weir rapid at the gauging station. There is a good playhole here, but looks initimdating. The weir is followed by a wave train and more moving water until the Sharks tooth rapid. This is a grade 3 of about 250m length and the character of the rapid changes slightly depending on the water level. AT higher levels you ca run right or left. The bottom as a couple of holes, and then a bit of moving water until the take out. Best to be run at 2300cfs or above https://riverdata.mdba.gov.au/colemans

Mitta Mitta River (Lower): Roadside stop to Mitta Mitta Caravan Park

NE Victoria. 10km from Mitta Mitta

Class: I - II & III

Description :

After the put in there are quite a few grade 2, 2+ rapids with nice waves and wave trains. These rapids continue until you reach the Witches Garden ( alternate take out) and then the river changes to mainly moving water, with overhanding willow, and trees blocking the way.  This section down to the caravan park is mainly farmland but a nice relaxing day paddle. The section takes around 2 hours if you don’t stop to play at the earlier rapids.

Putting In: Roadside Stop or Callaghans Creek

Taking Out: Caravan Park Mitta Mitta
