ROYSTON RIVER
Another great run near Eildon. Steep creek with lower volume, best run when Rubicon Gauge reads around 0.9 to 0.95.
Put in where the Royston Rd crosses the river approx 3km upstream of the Royston rd bridge, The first 500m or so is quite log chocked and only really grade 2, until you hit the Royston falls. These are not paddle-able, nor is it easy to climb down or around. The portage is quite hard and there are lots of blackberries. You could put in just below the falls, but the trek in would be more of the same.
Below the falls the river is amazing with lots of boulder gardens and 2-3m drops. Fantastic paddle, but lots of pin potential. The river is surprising free of wood until after the bottom Weir at the power station. Best to take out here and walk back to the car park. Its not a paddle for the faint-of-heart with plenty of "moments" along the way.
