HUGHES CREEK

Hughes Creek rd Crossing to Coolabah Crown Hughes Gorge Flora Reserve

This is a great section with play waves over sandstone outcrops, little drops and holes and lots of wave trains. The character is mainly drop pool, with some section quite heavily infested with tea tree and banksia, especially through the harder boulder gardens.

The entire section is mainly grade 2 with some 2+, but well worth a paddle.

The wildlife reserve is amazing and so uplifting with bird life and other animals.

The entire paddle is about 10km, and is fine at 1.1 or higher

Dropmore ( Nolans rd to Hughes Creek Rd Crossing)

Put in by walking down the creek bed at Nolans rd. Nolans rd no longer exists and is now part of a private farm rd. The put is is about 800m from the rd and the river is quite flat at this point.

The creek features numerous drops and slides, with a huge fun quotient. However, due to numerous fences acorss the river in the lower half, and many twists and turns, it takes longer to paddle than you think. One should allow at least 8 hours to paddle this section. The entire distance is about 13.5km and a lot of time is taken up in the lower section through reeds and boggy sections, as well as trying to get through farm fences strung across the river. This section would be grade 3, and perhaps 4 in higher water.

Its not worth paddling under 1.2m and would be best around 1.5m or higher ( Hughes creek at Tarcombe rd).
