TAPONGA RIVER

Taponga River

The Taponga river is a small river running off the Torbreck Hills and Mt Torbreck. The River runs into the Big River just above the big river bridge.

Access is hard, and it is easiest to paddle the section from the big river road down to the confluence. It’s a nice paddle, with moving water and a few small grade 1 rapids, interspersed with lots of trees.

AT the start of this section you will encounter one small grade 2 rapid.

To start higher up you will need to access the river via Gilettes track and a short hike down to the river through the bush.

Paddle after local rain, and when Big River is above 1.1m
