DELATITE RIVER - UPPER

Delatite River: Top Section

Mt Buller Gate to Mirrimbah

The Delatite arises on the slopes of Mt Buller and follows the snow rd along towards Merijig, and then further on before spilling in to Eildon Resevoir/ Weir. The top section starts around the Mt Buller gate and finish is near the Sebel Pinnacle Valley resort approx 5 km downstream. The river is great to paddle at around 0.65m and above on the sawmill settlement Gauge. Higher levels get really pushy and a swim can result in a long swimmer and gear retrieval. As is characteristic of most alpine creeks, the Delatite features small micro eddies, so large groups are harder to manage on this river.

this upper section features numerous bigger drops, starting with a great waterfall style drop around 2.5m high. Rapids are technical and more so at lower water, and the pin potential also gets higher at lower water. Watch out for trees and log jams, although the locals keep the river quite clean. Mainly a grade 3-4 continuous run, it gets to a good 4 at higher levels.
