BUCKLAND RIVER - EAST BRANCH

EAST BUCKLAND RIVER TO 12 MILE

The East Buckland flows near Mt Buffalo, and arises from the Central highland plateau of Hotham and Falls. This is a great run featuring mainly grade 2 and gravel races, but some larger grade 2+ drops in the higher reaches. Access is fantastic with many good campgrounds with facilities along the way. The river roughly follows the Buckland Valley way, and although there are numerous potholes, the quality of the rd is such that you could drive a 2WD.

The Section from Head Race Flat to the Confluence of the East and West Buckland is very Picturesque, and clear, clean water. The 5-6km section takes approx 1.5 hours to paddle at a level of 0.7 at the Upper Buckland Gauge.

Once the West meets the East the river widens, and there are mainly gravel races and really pretty temperature rainforest. The camping sites are grassy and flat, and easy to access from the river. The paddle to 12 mile from the confluence is another approximately 6km and takes 1.5-2 hours.

The River is suitable for beginners, overnight trips, kids, packrafts and more. Well worth a visit.
