This course is designed to have participants learn the skills to competently get into and out of eddies, cross fast currents and manoeuvre around grade 2 rapids. Although the course will be conducted on grade 2 whitewater it is well suited to those aiming to achieve similar on grade 3 water.
This course will take place on the Mitchell river and also encompass skills and knowledge needed for overnight trips, packing, gear required and how to safely navigate a packraft journey, including portages. Size of the rapids will be determined by river flow, and all precautions will be taken.
The Mitchell River is situated in the Mitchell River National Park, and as such this is a wilderness journey and skills weekend. Please be aware that all gear and food/ water will need to be organized beforehand as there are no shops close by.
Camping will be at wilderness campsites, and during the river journey will not have access to facilities. There are no costs for camping, but Participants will need to supply all of their own camping gear including cooking gear, stove, tent, sleeping gear, etc. Gear should be small and lightweight.
